Active Shooter in a House of Worship & Stop the Bleed Training for Congregations 01/23

Active shooter situations are unpredictable, evolve quickly and vary greatly from one attack to another. An Active Shooter is defined as an individual actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a confined and populated area. In most cases, active shooters use firearms(s) and there is no pattern or method to their selection of victims. In some recent attacks in NYC and elsewhere, these workplace violence events spill beyond the intended victim.

Module 1 – Presented by the NYPD Counterterrorism Bureau will explore recommendations to mitigate the risks from active shooter attacks. The NYPD developed this program based on analysis of past active shooter incidents and careful reviews of previous studies.

While this training session is tailored to building security personnel it also provides guidance to individuals, including managers and employees, so they can prepare to respond to an active shooter situation.

Module 2 – Presented by the National Disaster Interfaiths Network, and will include instruction and resources to prepare religious leaders and their staff for an active shooter, armed intruder or emotionally disturbed person.

Module 3 – Presented by New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center to teach the life-saving, basic techniques of bleeding control until professional help arrives. The national awareness campaign was developed to encourage the general public to take an active role in the event of life-threatening emergencies.
